The first of our teachers to feature is Rik, who has been a Swimtime Instructor for nearly 18 months. We caught Rik in the office today, and asked him a few questions…
Why did you become a swimming teacher?
I’ve always loved teaching, it allows me to bring together my passions; health, fitness, science and teaching. I come from a competitive swimming background, I think our family must have chlorine in the blood!
What’s the best thing about being a swimming teacher?
Giving individuals essential life saving skills, and enabling people to do things they never could have imagined being able to do in the water.
What’s your favourite swimming stroke, and why?
Front crawl, because it’s fast, powerful and efficient.
Favourite class at the moment?
At the moment I really look forward to my Improver 3 groups at the Hallmark, they are working on distances now. It’s great helping them to push themselves, and seeing them work harder and get better.
Tell us about your hobbies?
I love rock climbing and martial arts, they build dynamic and useful strength and fitness.
Rik teaches at the Village Hotel in Cheadle, the Hallmark hotel in Handforth, the Manchester Grammar School, and the Marriott Worsley Park.
